PACKING LIST
What should I bring? What stays at home?
Most scouts like to bring a box like the one pictured. These footlockers can be found at big box stores or online. It provides plenty of space for your scout's gear, fits nicely under their cot, and can be locked.
A combination lock is preferred, as the code can be given to the scoutmaster (no keys to lose).

HOMESICKNESS
Scouting Magazine has a good article on homesickness at scout camp:
How to help scouts avoid homesickness at summer camp
Keeping things positive from the parents side of things helps a lot. Scouts enjoy mail and care packages, but hold off on telling the scout how much you miss them and the fun things they are missing out on at home, this usually makes things worse.
Troop 4 leaders are parents who have at some point sent a first year camper to camp, so WE UNDERSTAND and are here to help! The older scouts have all been first year campers as well and truly do understand also. We always have crafts, books, and games to keep the boys occupied during down times.
We know how tempting a phone call can be, but 99% of times this only makes the situation worse, so we highly discourage phone calls home except in the most extreme situations. Please text one of the leaders at camp for an update and we are happy to let you know how your scout is doing. Please also note that leaders do not have cell phones out/on all the time, so we may not respond immediately. If you do not have Melissa's number in your phone, ask her to share it with you, she will send you updates and photos!
NO PEANUTS/PEANUT BUTTER AT CAMP. AT ALL.
